WHITESANDS Project
The WHITESANDS project design was engineered in 2003 and consists of three horizontal wells (500 metres long and 100 metres apart), three vertical air injection wells and 19 vertical observation wells (17 for temperature and two for pressure observations). Petrobank received approval for the project in 2004 and construction commenced in 2005. Start-up of the WHITESANDS project began in late March of 2006 with the initiation of the PIHC (Pre-Ignition Heating Cycle) in the central well pair. Air injection and combustion were initiated in mid-July 2006 and by year end, production had ramped up considerably, with gross production capability from the first horizontal well of up to 2,000 barrels of fluid per day, approximately double our initial forecast rate, with oil cuts currently between 40 and 50 percent.
