THAI™ Technology

Start-up

This diagram is taken from a numerical simulation model of the THAI™ Process using the Computer Modeling Group’s “STARS” model. The box represents the volume of the bitumen reservoir that will be swept by the THAI™ process. It has dimensions 500m x 100m x 20m with 80 percent original oil saturation and is representative of one of the pilot wells.

At start-up the horizontal and vertical wells are steamed for a short period of time to warm the horizontal well and to create mobility around the vertical well to facilitate air injection.

Coke Zone

The red area shows where the heavy fractions (coke) are being deposited in the reservoir. Coke is the fuel for the process.

Mobilized Oil

The green area is where oil saturation has been reduced to 50 percent from 80 percent showing that oil has moved from the zone into the horizontal well.
