May River Project
Petrobank Energy and Resources Ltd. and its wholly-owned subsidiary WHITESANDS Insitu Inc. through their partnership WHITESANDS Insitu Partnership (WHITESANDS), are proposing to develop the May River Project to recover bitumen from the Athabasca oil sands using the THAI™ (toe-to-heel air injection) in-situ combustion process. The project is planned for the Conklin region of northeast Alberta, near the existing WHITESANDS Project, which was constructed in 2005 to demonstrate the THAI™ process in the field. Based on the encouraging results from the pilot we are moving to the commercial development stage with the May River Project. The May River Project will be executed in a series of phases to manage the associated construction, operational, financial and marketing risks in a controlled manner. Through this phased approach we will be able to adapt to changing conditions as we evaluate the new production processes and improve our design, execution and operating strategies. For more information please see the May River public disclosure document.
