The Latin American Business Unit is operated by Petrobank’s 67% owned, TSX-listed subsidiary, Petrominerales Ltd. (trading symbol: PMG) which holds large tracts of exploration lands in two of the most prospective countries on the South American continent – Colombia and Peru. In 2007, we drilled a major discovery at Corcel, which is only one of many exploration plays being pursued by the company in the largely under-explored basins of Colombia and Peru.
Technology will drive the heavy oil and bitumen business globally and our Heavy Oil Business Unit is at the forefront in creating an essential and sustainable step-change worldwide. Our patented THAI™ technology is a process that has created a paradigm shift in extraction of bitumen from the oil sands. When compared to other in-situ processes, THAI™ presents major economic, environmental and operational improvements. The process has been proven in Canada’s oil sands, and is being evaluated in heavy oil reservoirs in Canada and internationally. The business unit is on the verge of creating a new global solution for the extraction of heavy oil.
The Archon Technologies Business Unit focuses on the development and acquisition of new technology and innovations that will capture the commercial benefits of the THAI™ and CAPRI™ technology (e.g., incremental surface upgrading, high-quality produced water, oxygen-enriched injection air, sulphur recovery, carbon dioxide capture and heat recovery). THAI™ and CAPRI™ are registered trademarks of Archon Technologies Ltd., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Petrobank.
