Officers
Mr. John D. Wright is President and Chief Executive Officer of Petrobank Energy and Resources Ltd. (since 2000), President and Chief Executive Officer PetroBakken Energy Ltd. and Chairman of the Board of Petrominerales Ltd.
Previously, Mr. Wright was President and Chief Executive Officer of Pacalta Resources from May 1996 to June 1999; Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Morgan Hydrocarbons from December 1993 to April 1996; and Vice President Production of Morgan Hydrocarbons from 1989 to 1993.
At the corporate level, John is a director of each of the Petro Group of Companies as well as a director of Hawk Exploration Ltd. and Charger Energy Corp. In the not for profit sector, John is Chairman of the Canadian Association - World Petroleum Council, founder of Fundación Ñan Paz in Ecuador and founder and director of Fundación Vichituni in Colombia. John is also a member of APEGGA, the CFA Institute and YPO/WPO.
John holds a B.Sc. in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Alberta (1981) and a Charter Financial Analyst (CFA) designation (1988).
Mr. Bloomer has over 25 years experience in the energy industry spanning both the upstream and downstream sectors. He joined Petrobank in December 2002, and is currently Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the Heavy Oil Business Unit. His career began in 1978 at Shell Canada Limited where he moved with increasing responsibility from exploration to economics and finance, oil sands development, planning and marketing, culminating in his role as Director, Liquids Business Centre. From 1993 until 1995 Mr. Bloomer was Senior Vice President of Castle Energy Corporation (NASDAQ), and Chief Operating Officer of its Canadian interests, natural gas production and pipeline operations in Texas. From 1996 until 1998 he was a founder and President and Chief Operating Officer of Canadian TALON Resources Ltd. (TSX), engaged in developing energy projects primarily in Latin America. Subsequently Mr. Bloomer was a Managing Director of Korn/Ferry International's Calgary office from May 1998 until December 2002 focusing on the domestic and international energy industry. Mr. Bloomer holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology from the University of Toronto and is a member of the Association of Engineers Geologists and Geophysicists of Alberta (APEGGA).
Mr. Cheung joined Petrobank in August 2010 and brings an extensive range of accounting, capital markets, financial analysis and treasury experience to Petrobank. Most recently, he was Treasurer at Compton Petroleum Corporation, after having founded an investment management company. Previously, Mr. Cheung was Vice President and Treasurer at Pengrowth Energy Trust and Vice President at RBC Capital Markets Energy Investment Banking. Mr. Cheung holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Calgary and is a Chartered Accountant, Corporate Finance specialization.
Operations & Production
Mr. Mervold joined Petrobank in September 2011, and is currently the Senior Vice President of Operations and Production. His career spans over 24 years starting in the field office with Dome Petroleum in 1987, which later became BP AMOCO through a series of mergers. In 1999, Mr. Mervold joined Canadian Natural Resources Ltd. as a Production Engineer of Heavy Oil and Gas when they acquired the oil business unit of BP AMOCO. Mr. Merovld held various Production Management roles at Paramount Energy Trust from 2005 until he joined Petrobank in 2011. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Saskatchewan, and is a member of the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists, and Geophysicists of Alberta.
Exploitation
Mr. Richardson joined Petrobank in January 2012 and is currently the Vice President of Exploitation. His career spans over 20 years in the Canadian oil and gas industry. Mr. Richardson’s heavy oil experience includes polymer flooding, water flooding, in-situ combustion and cold heavy oil production. Prior to joining Petrobank Mr. Richardson was Exploitation Manager with Canadian Natural Resources Limited. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Alberta and is a member of the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists, and Geophysicists of Alberta.
Chad Magus joined Petrobank in May 2004, and was most recently Manager of Reporting and Planning. Chad has contributed to Petrobank's many strategic initiatives since 2004, including the formation of Petrominerales Ltd. and PetroBakken Energy Ltd. Prior to joining Petrobank, Chad worked for KPMG as an external auditor focusing on publicly traded companies within the oil and gas sector. Chad received his Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Saskatchewan in 1998, and is a Chartered Accountant.
Andrea Hatzinikolas joined Petrobank as General Counsel in January 2007 and is currently Petrobank's Corporate Secretary and the General Counsel and Corporate Secretary of Petrominerales Ltd. Prior to joining Petrobank, Ms. Hatzinikolas was an associate in a large law firm in Calgary, with a practice focusing on securities and corporate law. Ms. Hatzinikolas received her Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Alberta in 1999 and Bachelor of Laws degree in 2003.
