Mr. Bloomer has over 25 years experience in the energy industry spanning both the upstream and downstream sectors. He joined Petrobank in December 2002, and is currently Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the Heavy Oil Business Unit. His career began in 1978 at Shell Canada Limited where he moved with increasing responsibility from exploration to economics and finance, oil sands development, planning and marketing, culminating in his role as Director, Liquids Business Centre. From 1993 until 1995 Mr. Bloomer was Senior Vice President of Castle Energy Corporation (NASDAQ), and Chief Operating Officer of its Canadian interests, natural gas production and pipeline operations in Texas. From 1996 until 1998 he was a founder and President and Chief Operating Officer of Canadian TALON Resources Ltd. (TSX), engaged in developing energy projects primarily in Latin America. Subsequently Mr. Bloomer was a Managing Director of Korn/Ferry International's Calgary office from May 1998 until December 2002 focusing on the domestic and international energy industry. Mr. Bloomer holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology from the University of Toronto and is a member of the Association of Engineers Geologists and Geophysicists of Alberta (APEGGA).
Mr. Brown has been an independent businessman since January 2006. Prior to that, he was the Senior Managing Director of Raymond James Ltd. from 1995 to 2005. Mr. Brown was the Executive Vice President of the Alberta Stock Exchange from 1986 to 1995. He also serves on the boards of several other public companies. Mr. Brown obtained his Chartered Accountant designation in 1983, has a Bachelor of Arts degree majoring in Economics and a Bachelor of Commerce degree.
Mr. McCrank has a long record of public service in Alberta and Ontario and was the Deputy Minister of Justice and Deputy Attorney General for Alberta from 1989 to 1998. From 1998 to 2007, Mr. McCrank was the Chairman of the Alberta Energy and Utilities Board. Since then, he has been consulted with respect to regulatory matters by all levels of Government in Canada, international Governments, and numerous regulatory organizations and was appointed as Counsel to Borden Ladner Gervais LLP in June of 2008. Mr. McCrank is a Professional Engineer in Alberta and a member of the Law Societies of both Alberta and Ontario.
Mr. McKinnon has been a Director of Petrobank since March 2000; Corporate Secretary from November 1997 to February 2005; and Vice President, Finance and Chief Financial Officer from November 1997 to March 2000. Mr. McKinnon has also held the position of Vice President Legal and General Counsel of Critical Mass Inc. since March 2000. Mr. McKinnon holds a ICD.D designation, as a certified corporate director.
Mr. Oaks was one of the original founders of Petrobank. He has been a Director of Petrobank since September 1993 and was appointed Chairman of the Board of Directors on June 15, 2009. He is currently President and founder of Oaks Resources Management Inc. Mr. Oaks received a Bachelor of Science degree in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin in 1958. He has 50 years of oil and gas experience including various engineering roles at Phillips Petroleum Company working in Texas, Venezuela, Algeria, Libya and Colombia. Mr. Oaks is a registered Professional Engineer (Texas) and a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers and American Institute of Mining and Metallurgical Engineers.
Mr. Ruttan has held various positions with Petrobank since March 2000, including Vice President Finance, Director of Corporate Finance and Investor Relations and Manager of Corporate Finance. He was appointed Chief Financial Officer in May 2007 and was promoted to Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer in September 2008. Prior to joining Petrobank, Mr. Ruttan served as Vice President of Caribou Capital Corp. from June 1999 to March 2000; Manager Financial Reporting of Pacalta Resources Ltd. from May 1997 to June 1999; and articled with KPMG from September 1994 to May 1997. Mr. Ruttan obtained his Bachelor of Commerce degree majoring in Accounting from the University of Calgary in 1994 and obtained his Chartered Accountant designation in 1997.
Mr. Smith joined Petrobank as Vice President in March of 2003 and was promoted to Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Petrobank's Canadian Business Unit (now PetroBakken) in September 2008. Prior to joining Petrobank, Mr. Smith worked for Esso Resources, Westcoast Petroleum, Numac Energy, HCO Petroleum, Pinnacle Resources, Newport Petroleum and Hunt Oil Company of Canada Inc., in various positions including Senior Geophysicist, Exploration Team Leader, and Exploration Manager. Mr. Smith graduated in 1983 from the University of British Columbia with a Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree in Geophysics.
Dr. Vredenburg is Professor of Strategic Management and Suncor Energy Chair in Competitive Strategy & Sustainable Development at the University of Calgary's Haskayne School of Business. In 1995, he co-founded Haskayne's Masters of Science in sustainable energy development for Latin America and the Caribbean in Quito, Ecuador with the Latin American Energy Organization (OLADE). He teaches in Masters of Business Administration, Masters of Science, PhD and executive programs and has published more than 30 articles on strategy in international management journals. He consults to industry and government and serves on not-for-profit boards. He was a professor at McGill University and a manager at American Express prior to joining Haskayne. He earned his PhD from the University of Western Ontario's Ivey School of Business in 1986; as well he earned the Institute of Corporate Directors' ICD.D designation, as a certified corporate director, in 2005.
Mr. John D. Wright is President and Chief Executive Officer of Petrobank Energy and Resources Ltd. (since 2000), President and Chief Executive Officer PetroBakken Energy Ltd. and Chairman of the Board of Petrominerales Ltd.
Previously, Mr. Wright was President and Chief Executive Officer of Pacalta Resources from May 1996 to June 1999; Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Morgan Hydrocarbons from December 1993 to April 1996; and Vice President Production of Morgan Hydrocarbons from 1989 to 1993.
At the corporate level, John is a director of each of the Petro Group of Companies as well as a director of Hawk Exploration Ltd. and Charger Energy Corp. In the not for profit sector, John is Chairman of the Canadian Association - World Petroleum Council, founder of Fundación Ñan Paz in Ecuador and founder and director of Fundación Vichituni in Colombia. John is also a member of APEGGA, the CFA Institute and YPO/WPO.
John holds a B.Sc. in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Alberta (1981) and a Charter Financial Analyst (CFA) designation (1988).
